Entering your DNS / Nameserver settings
Getting a Domain and Hosting: Entering
your DNS settings
If you purchase your domain name with ServerGrade you
don't need to. We setup all domain names purchased with us to
automatically point to your webspace.
If you have purchased your domain name somewhere else,
this step does become necessary.
Entering your DNS / nameserver settings is different
for every domain name registrar (companies that sell domain names). In
most cases this is not a major problem because setting them is still
straightforward.
- This first step is to login to the website of the
company you bought your domain name from. Do this using the username
and password you received or created when signing-up.
- You then need to find the area in the website where
your DNS / nameserver settings are listed, and replace them with the
settings we give you when you order hosting.
- Finally you need to wait for your new settings to
propagate throughout the Internet. This takes between 24 and 72 hours
to complete. Don't expect the switch to be immediate, this time is a
normal part of the process.
The DNS / nameserver settings that you receive in your
web hosting setup email from us look similar to this:
» NameServer Info:
Primary DNS Server Hostname: dns3.correctdns.com
Primary DNS Server Address: 147.202.32.16
Secondary Name Server Hostname: dns4.correctdns.com
Secondary Name Server Address: 147.202.32.17
It is important to note here that we run a significant
amount of servers for various needs. The nameserver addresses listed
here are not necessarily the servers you will be setup on.
Now with everything connected it is time to get a page
up on our new account. We need to login
to our web space and upload a page.
